This postcard set features a group of three canvases by Thomas Waterman Wood depicting an African American Civil War soldier. "The Contraband" shows a recently emancipated slave seeking enlistment in the Union army. "The Recruit" shows him proudly wearing his new uniform. "The Veteran" shows him returning wounded.
