ASL Mother

She smiles with that relaxed, closed lip, serene facial expression so often associated with the Mona Lisa. Her hand signs "Mother" in American Sign Language (ASL) but her face says just as much. By her very smile, she reassures her children - or perhaps her grandchildren - that all is well. This painting began as a sketch and then evolved from there. It is mixed media and incorporates a variety of artist tools. The colors are bright and happy. Overall, the piece is somewhat modern, perhaps post-modern.
