Carmichael Scottish Clan of Carmichael House Gifts

Carmichael family gifts feature a photo of the ruins of Carmichael House, in South Lanarkshire, Scotland, once home to the Carmichael family. This Scottish clan is also considered a sept of the Clan Douglas, Clan MacDougall, Stewart of Appin, and Stewart of Galloway. The Carmichaels have been settled in the upper ward of the same name in Lanarkshire for almost 800 years. Their name dates from 1058 when good Queen Margaret established one of her first six churches here and dedicated it to St. Michel. The district and its people became “of Caermichel” with the rise of surnames in the 13th century. This house was probably built between 1754 and 1767 for John, 3rd Earl of Hyndford. It has been roofless since about 1955 but is otherwise substantially intact in the form of an H plan country house.
