Chandra X-ray Observatory

NASA’s Chandra X-ray Observatory is a specialized telescope that looks at the Universe through X-rays rather that visible light. These X-rays are produced when matter is heated to millions of degrees, such as in high magnetic fields, extreme gravity fields or cosmic explosions. Chandra was launched by the Space Shuttle Columbia in 1999 and is still in operation more that two decades later.
