Endangered Blue-Throated Macaw watercolours

Blue-Throated Macaw ENDANGERED The Blue-Throated Macaw has a very small population and is on the verge of extinction in the wild. These birds are only found in North Bolivia, nesting in islands of palm trees. They play an important role in forest regeneration. They were severely threatened in the past by legal and illegal exploitation for the national and international cage bird trade. Nest-site competition from other macaws, toucans, bats is significant. Conservation: Several breeding and conservation schemes in zoos have now been set up to save the species. Even though other projects have been started to protect the remaining wild population, numbers are still declining .
