Halloween is based on the Celtic festival Samhain, celebrated on October 31st - November 1st. It was known to be a time of transition between the seasons and the start of the Celtic new year. It was also believed to be a time when the veil between the world of the living and that of the departed, was at its thinnest. Many of the world's ancient religions have similar festivals at this time of year. Lighting bonfires, celebrating all we have accomplished during the year, honouring our ancestors as well as gathering with loved ones are all wonderful ways to celebrate this ancient festival and bring the magic and wisdom of our ancestors forward.
