The Flower & Season Tiles

In British Mah-Jong the Flower and Season tiles are bonus tiles, giving extra points and sometimes extra doubles. Modern plastic sets generally show simple designs, using the conventional Flowers (1 – Plum, 2 – Orchid or Lily, 3 – Chrysanthemum, 4 – Bamboo) and Seasons (1 – Spring, 2 – Summer, 3 – Autumn, 4 – Winter). But older sets made in China have more intricate designs whose relationships to these themes are much less clear, except to note that they follow traditional themes.
