National Dog Day

**National Dog Day** is celebrated annually on August 26th. The day honors dogs of all breeds, pure and mixed, and highlights the importance of protecting and caring for them. It was established in 2004 by animal advocate Colleen Paige to bring attention to the number of dogs that need to be rescued each year and to acknowledge the family dogs and working dogs that contribute to our safety and happiness. The day encourages adoption from shelters and promotes responsible pet ownership, reminding people of the love and joy that dogs bring into our lives.
