Geoffrey Squire

My name is +Paul Stickland and my grandfather Geoffrey Squire , 1896 - 1989, was a prolific artist, author and illustrator, who survived the horrors of the First World War, seeing extraordinary service on the battlefields of France and Belgium. His recently discovered sketchbook bears witness to this, a quite unique and moving document. I have been carefully scanning this and much of his other work and I will be posting it on his Geoffrey Squire profile. He never spoke to anyone of his experiences in the war, so this sketchbook offers the most incredible glimpse of the camaraderie and maybe even romance in the midst of such horror. What stands out is the clear respect and love of these, the true War Horses. With this at the foundation of his working life, I will post the examples of his very prolific artistic and literary output which are still luckily in the hands of the family, notably his daughters Rosaline, Belinda and Jacqueline and his grandchildren, of which I am lucky to be one. There is a great deal of work and much to be rediscovered in lost branches of the family but I want to use this compilation of his work to be the reason to seek this out. I hope you will enjoy it in the same way that I am having delight in assembling it but never for one moment forgetting the staggering assault that this young man endured in the unthinkable experiences of the battlefields of the First World War.
