Words with Boards

Hello, we’re Mike and Kim the husband & wife artisans behind Words with Boards. People often ask how we came up with the idea to create unique wood cutting and serving boards. We believe Kim’s unknowing passion began in junior high wood shop where she made her first board with the word Chop cut out of the top. Fast forward a few years and Kim, who has a background in custom product design and development, marries Mike, a creative director and designer. In 2011, we got the wacky idea to make personalized cutting boards out of leftover butcher block for friends and family. Mike cut the boards and added a little twist: beautifully carved words. They were a huge hit. Pretty soon, friends of friends wanted to personalize the boards for themselves and to give as wedding, birthday, and other special occasion gifts. They flew off the shelves at retail shops, artist markets and trade shows. Then Martha Stewart found us. Then Uncommon Goods and Zazzle found us. Words with Boards took off with rave reviews and here we are, living our little slice of the American dream. Our boards are truly one of a kind. Glad you asked. • We are the only company that hand-cuts words on wooden cutting boards. • We use only sustainably forested American hardwoods. • Our boards are designed to be both decorative and functional. Unlike laser engraved boards, our words won’t wear away. • We are part of the American Made movement.
