Each June, 2,200 cyclists join 650 volunteer roadies to trek across California, raising funds and awareness in the fight against HIV/AIDS. I am one of them, a cyclist (and roadie!) in AIDS/LifeCycle: a 7-day supported bike ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles, covering 545 miles of road through California, produced by and benefiting the San Francisco AIDS Foundation and the Los Angeles LGBT Center. It is the single largest non-governmental source of funding for the San Francisco AIDS Foundation I ride because I want to help end HIV/AIDS. It’s now been a public health crisis for more than 30 years, which means a growing number of adults have never known a world without it. I ride in the hope that, for the generations that follow us, it is and forever will be a thing of the past.
